Feathered Ends

Untitled

For a long time I've wanted to make bookends, and of course I knew I wanted birds to be involved. I had tried using wood as a base, but that wasn't strong enough and my mission began to find some large stones.

Kevin and I were driving out of a parking lot when I spotted these cement pieces. I yelled, "STOP THE CAR!!!!" and practically rolled out while it was still moving because I knew they'd be perfect.

I found these wooden bird ornaments on sale at Michael's for $1 each, but you can use anything from a plastic figurine to a child's toy.

1. Hammer stones to desired shape.
(Go outside & grind stones against pavement to shape them, this is how cavewomen made their bookends)
2. Paint your figurine with desired colors using the weathered effect shown here.
3. Put epoxy glue on the bottom of the figurine and adhere to the stones.
